Fishing Report - February 5, 2010by Capt. Bill Baldus on 02/06/11
While it seems much of the country has been caught in an epic blizzard, we have enjoyed sunshine and temperatures climbing into the 80's. I fished with Thiago Zinetti, owner of the Fly Shop of Brazil, yesterday in the middle keys of the 10k. Some days you eat the bear and some days the bear eats you - well, yesterday the bear ate us.
We have had steady south winds the last week churning up the Gulf and back bays. We started out with a very low tide in the morning and spotted a few nice reds on our first stop. The low light and muddy water made these guys a tough target. Other than a couple of mangrove snapper, and a swipe by a small red, we called it a day early and went back to the Port for some libations and comparing notes on fly fishing here and in Brazil. It was great to visit with Thiago and hear about the flies and variety of fish they have. Sounds like a great destination for the fly fisherman.
We will keep you posted,
Capt Bill Baldus
