We were looking for a realistic crab imitation to add to our arsenal of redfish flies. The Mangrove Crab is it. This fly is representative of the dark colored mangrove and mud crabs we find down here in the 10,000 Islands. A great crab pattern to fish around the oyster bars and mud banks for cruising reds. This should also be a good pattern to throw at black drum this winter. These guys can be finicky on the fly.
Tied on a size 1/0 with EP Crab Claws, stamen eyes painted black, dark brown furry foam on top and light brown on the bottom, dark brown micro chenille for legs and finished with a tuft of  brown grizzly marabou. I add a small dumbbell eye up front for weight.
Best for sight fishing when the water is clear, cast ahead of the fish, let it sit and give it a couple of short strips.
Tie some in tan or olive for permit and bones as well.
